Let me share a short history about cooking in the Brefo’s household. Would you believe that I could not even boil/fry an egg till I was 21!!! The recipe for my inability to cook involved the following ingredients:
- An amazing and loving mum who is a housewife and brilliant cook.
- I was the younger of two girls. I had no responsibilities in the home – domestic chores were foreign to me.
- I was very busy outside the home with studies, work, ministry and mission trips.
This all resulted in me being so undomestic, baked beans on toast was the only meal I could make and ever made.
At around the age of 21-22, I tasted of the practice and skill called cooking, and I loved it. At this time, Obed and I were just friends. We were managers and the face of the first ever UK Christian music channel. We worked most days of the week and for long hours. We realised we were spending way too much money on food at lunch, so we decided to economise by bringing in leftovers or home-cooked meals.
When Obed first brought in a meal I was surprised at how amazing it tasted. I was even more surprised when I found out he was the chef behind it. My competitive streak kicked-in, and from then on I was determined to out-cook him. During these competitions was when I first became acquainted with cooking, and fell in love with it.
But the highlight of these times was when Obed and I became more than friends; we became lovers. I was happy to discover that the man I was to marry was a wonderful cook (this was the cherry on top!). He deserves an award for his meatballs, Thai curry and Caribbean food!!!
A few years later, we’re happily married. One Christmas my hubby bought me some dessert cook books. Since then I’ve been really hooked on baking! I’m a huge chocolate fan! The richer it is, the more I like it! My husband on the other hand doesn’t quite have a sweet tooth. If he finds a dessert too sweet, I know I’ll love it. And if I find it too subtle, it’ll be the one he loves.
Thanks to modern technology and the Internet, we are able to archive all that’s created in the Brefo’s kitchen, and share it with you and the world. We creatively snapped every photo you see at our home!
